Dear AGORA Colleagues,
Thank you very much as always for your interest and participation in AGORA. Hope everyone is doing well.
[1] The 3rd AGORA Paper “CosmoRun”
- As you are well aware, over the past years, many of us have been working hard to build a suite of high-resolution cosmological zoom-in simulations of a Milky Way-mass halo on six different code platforms (ART-I, ENZO, RAMSES, CHANGA, GADGET-3 and GEAR). And now, thanks to the Herculean efforts by Santi Roca-Fabrega and our code leaders, we are pleased to announce that Paper "CosmoRun" — the third report by the AGORA Collaboration that introduces the said suite — is ready for submission to the ApJ.
● Paper draft: https://drive.google.com/file/d/15Js-jvcMThNIe-WNnPFi_rsPqhwU0YOd/view?usp=sharing (28 pages; last update Mar. 22, PDT)
● Workspace for Papers “CosmoRun” (and “CGM”): https://sites.google.com/site/projectagoraworkspace/collaborative-documents/paper-cgm.
- We thank all the tireless participants in this arduous endeavor including the code leaders who led the effort within each code group to perform and analyze simulations: Roca-Fabrega, Kim, Hausammann, Nagamine, Powell and Shimizu. We also thank those who helped to run the codes, implemented physics subroutines, built analysis platforms, and provided valuable inputs on the earlier version of this paper. The research heavily utilized the resources of the National Energy Research Scientific Computing Center (NERSC), a DOE Office of Science User Facility, through the help of Primack and Abel. Last but not least, we thank the members of the AGORA Steering Committee for carefully reviewing the manuscript, and for their vision and proposition to focus on science-oriented comparisons using zoom-in simulations.
- We would be happy to hear your last-minute comment and feedback by Mar. 29 (Mon, PDT) although major changes to the manuscript may not be expected at this point, as the draft has been in multi-round circulation for months to the audiences of increasing sizes. We plan to submit the paper to the ApJ right afterwards, as agreed during the group-wide telecons. We thank you in advance for your valuable insights. (Please email any of your thoughts directly to Santi and Ji-hoon, rather than editing the version on Overleaf.)
[2] Two more things we kindly ask you to consider:
- The core authors of this paper have decided to post the paper on the arXiv *after* its first referee report is received. Therefore, until the paper is publicly available on the arXiv or ApJ, we ask you to refrain from sharing the draft beyond the confines of the Collaboration. We remind you of the Collaboration policy about the disclosure of its results (posted here: https://sites.google.com/site/projectagoraworkspace/home/collaboration-blog/policiesregardingthedisclosureoftheagorasimulationresults).
- You are welcomed to contribute to any other ongoing projects in AGORA (https://sites.google.com/site/projectagoraworkspace/collaborative-documents/progress-report-21), including the next Papers that are natural extensions of Paper “CosmoRun”. Please feel free to talk to Santi or Ji-hoon if you’d like to do so — especially if you are interested in joining with a new code. The calibration results of the newly participating codes are expected to be in the follow-up Papers as an appendix.
--
We plan to hold a short conference call once the paper is posted on the arXiv, and hope to resume the annual AGORA Workshop in August (online) to discuss the scopes and strategies for the next Papers. So, please stay tuned.
Thank you again for your continued interest in AGORA! Please take care and stay safe.
Sincerely,
Santi, Joel and Ji-hoon on behalf of the AGORA “CosmoRun” Group and the AGORA Steering Committee
