Dear AGORA Colleagues,

Thank you very much as always for your participation in AGORA. I am Minyong Jung, a graduate student working with Ji-hoon, and I am writing this email on behalf of myself, Santi, Ji-hoon, and all other co-authors of AGORA Paper "Satellite."

[1] Recent AGORA Efforts

● As you are well aware, in the past 2 years the Collaboration has been working hard to analyze the cosmological zoom-in simulations of a MW-mass galaxy introduced in AGORA Paper III (“CosmoRun”; Roca-Fabrega et al. 2021). Since Paper III, we have been working on mainly three fronts:
- Paper IV (“CosmoRun2”): continue our comparison of CosmoRun at z~2 and below, while introducing AREPO to AGORA
- Paper V (“Satellites”): compare the satellite galaxy/halo populations at z~2, using 7 CosmoRuns and 7 counterpart DMO runs
- Paper VI (“CGM”): compare the circumgalactic medium at z<~3 among the simulations and with observations

[2] AGORA Paper “Satellites” Beta Release

● As a first result of the three-pronged campaign, we are pleased to announce that Paper V “Satellites” is ready for submission to the ApJ. The draft was signed off by all the co-authors and the AGORA Steering Committee. Most importantly, using 7 CosmoRuns and 7 DMO counterpart runs we found that the so-called missing satellite problem is fully resolved across all participating codes simply by implementing the common baryonic physics adopted in AGORA and the stellar feedback prescription commonly used in each code, with sufficient numerical resolution (<~100 proper pc at z~2). This makes the first time that different codes have converged on a common conclusion for this issue.

● We particularly want to acknowledge the code leaders who led the effort to perform and analyze AGORA CosmoRuns: Roca-Fabrega, Kim, Lupi, Nagamine, Powell, and Revaz. The research heavily utilized the resources of the National Energy Research Scientific Computing Center (NERSC), a DOE Office of Science User Facility, through the help of Primack and Abel. We are also grateful to the members of the AGORA Steering Committee for their guidance to focus on science-oriented comparisons using CosmoRuns.

● During the “beta release”, we would be happy to hear your last-minute comments and feedback by Apr. 17 (Mon), although major changes to the manuscript may not be desired at this point, as the draft has been circulating among increasingly larger audiences for months. Please feel free to email any of your thoughts directly to Minyong or Ji-hoon. We plan to submit the paper to the ApJ right afterwards. We thank you in advance for your valuable insights.

[3] Timeline for Papers IV to VI

● The Paper V co-authors have agreed to first submit the paper to ApJ after the beta release, but *not* to the arXiv yet. While Paper V moves through the referee process, Paper IV will be wrapped up by Santi Roca-Fabrega et al and submitted to ApJ *and* arXiv, at which point Paper V is also posted on the arXiv. Paper VI is also making a really good progress by Clayton Strawn et al., and will also follow the Paper IV timeline. Please stay tuned for the updates in the coming months. (FYI, submitting Paper V will make it possible for the co-authors to talk about the paper outside the confines of the Collaboration: https://sites.google.com/site/projectagoraworkspace/?authuser=0#h.q9ztn0xoacr6 <https://sites.google.com/site/projectagoraworkspace/?authuser=0#h.q9ztn0xoacr6>).

● You are welcomed to contribute to any other ongoing projects in AGORA (https://sites.google.com/site/projectagoraworkspace/collaborative-documents/progress-report-25 <https://sites.google.com/site/projectagoraworkspace/collaborative-documents/progress-report-25>). Please feel free to talk to Ji-hoon if you’d like to do so.

Santi and Ji-hoon will announce a Collaboration-wide telecon soon to discuss Papers IV and VI, and officially announce this year's summer Workshop (Aug. 11-12, 2023). The Doodle link will be sent out shortly.

Thank you again for your help and interest in AGORA!

Sincerely,
Minyong, Santi, and Ji-hoon on behalf of the co-authors of AGORA Paper V
