Dear Project Participants,

Welcome to Project AGORA! AGORA was submitted by Javiera Guedes at ETH Zurich, and garnered 58% of the votes in the final round (21 votes out of 36, attached). AGORA stands for Assembling Galaxies Of Resolved Anatomy, and of course came from an ancient Greek word Ἀγορά meaning a gathering place in ancient Greek city states. We thank everybody who has participated in the poll.

We now move to the science business, and ask you to please fulfill the following action items.

-------------------------------------------------
ACTION ITEMS:

1. Every member who has signed up by now can access the Collaboration Workspace by clicking the "Workspace" tab on the project webpage and then sign in with Gmail ID. A registered member has a full read/write privilege. If you need an access but have not signed up yet, please send us an email.

2. To (tentative) leaders of Working Groups, whose names are now posted at galaxy.jihoonkim.org/details:

We ask you to fulfill the following items.

(1) First, start organizing your working group and check which codes are being represented. Recruit more people if needed. Up-to-date member lists of each working group can be found at galaxy.jihoonkim.org/details. You can also find the email addresses of the project participants at the "Useful Info" section of the Workspace.

(2) Make sure to have your leadership role confirmed with the group members, and let us know at santacruzgalaxy at gmail.com. FYI, the authorship policy for the project papers is in the making and soon to be announced.

(3) Build a roadmap of the working group. Think about science questions, and circulate an agenda of proposed simulations and analysis in your group. Launch a sub-project or a spin-off project if necessary. Please be inclusive of all group members at every step of the way.

(4) Encourage the group members to share their progress in your group's Workspace page. Be transparent about your progress so it can be clearly understood by the members outside the group, or by new members of the collaboration. Maintain two levels of description in your group's Workspace, namely: [A] a succinct summary of the current project state/results of a working group, primarily under the responsibility of the group leader, and [B] a blog-like collection of more specific information as the project moves ahead. Other groups will always want to know [A], but may occasionally use [B] in terms of results/analysis/technical issues between projects.

(5) Thus far, most of the actions have been in WG I - III, and some in WG V - VI. We ask these working groups to share their progress on Workspace at the earliest convenience, so that other science-focused groups can orient themselves more easily. You may also use this mailing list or the Collaboration Blog to advertise your achievement.

-------------------------------------------------
FUTURE TIMELINE:

1. By the first web conference on Nov.16, we expect each working group has completed at least some of the agenda above.

2. The flagship paper(s) of Project AGORA to introduce the rationale and structure of the project is expected later this year, with a draft hopefully ready by Nov.16. First science papers by WG V - VI, or others are expected in the summer of 2013.

Please do not hesitate to talk to us if you have any question or concern. Thank you very much.

Sincerely,
Piero Madau, Lucio Mayer, Joel Primack, and Romain Teyssier for the SOC
